Course Description:
The Truth about Stigma is an interactive 4-hour training designed to give participants a better understanding of stigma and the impact it can have on the wellbeing of others. Participants will look at the evolution of stigma, the different types of stigmas as well as learn different responses to help others who are victims of stigma. This training is provided virtually.
Learning Objectives include:
- Participants will define stigma
- Participants will be able to articulate contributing factors to stigma
- Participants will list types of stigma
- Participants will identify how stigma affects individuals
- Participants will list responses that help individuals who have been victims of stigma
- Participants will discover their own biases and explore ways to challenge their stigmatizing beliefs
- Participants will be able to identify where/when they have experienced discrimination and stigma and learn to more quickly identify when this is happening and proper responses to be self-protective
- Participants will list ways to be change agents in reducing stigma in their everyday lives and their scope of contacts
Please note: You must have a working webcam and microphone to participate in this training. You may not participate from a moving vehicle. Nursing, Act 58 CEUs and Social Work credits may be available.
